Rend Early Access Begins July 31

We are proud to announce that Rend will enter Early Access on Steam later this month. Beginning on Tuesday, July 31, you’ll be able to purchase Rend and join the community shaping the game along its journey to launch. We’d like to highlight our deep appreciation for our tenacious Alpha testers on their diligent and ongoing help in preparing Rend for its Early Access debut!

From Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO of Frostkeep Studios:
“Early access marks a pivotal moment for Frostkeep Studios. We have been developing Rend side-by-side with our players since we first announced the game and are grateful for the invaluable feedback they provided to help shape Rend into what it has become today: the game they want to play.”

What’s next until July 31? In the remaining weeks of Alpha, you can follow along with our roadmap as we continue to add game content and overall improvements through to the launch of Early Access. We’ll also be accelerating the rate at which we add new testers to Alpha and everyone who signs up will be invited before the test concludes.

In addition, we’ll be kicking off our official livestream series with a very special broadcast from Seattle: Penny Arcade Presents Rend! Penny Arcade's Jerry “Tycho” Holkins will be joined by Frostkeep’s Jeremy Wood and Jake Strapko for a two-hour introduction to the game. Weekly livestreams featuring in-studio Rend updates straight from our developers will follow soon after.

Finally, we’re excited to also announce our Rend Partner Program will be launching later this month before Early Access and will be open to both established and up-and-coming channels. The program will provide a variety of benefits to partners including social media promotions, giveaway sponsorships, developer interviews, and much more.

We've assembled the following FAQ based on what we think you want to know about the game's next development milestone but want to hear your questions as well: we've created a thread on the Rend forums so you can ask and we can answer them!

Is Rend Alpha the same as Early Access?

Rend Alpha is the game’s current phase and precedes Early Access on Steam. Our standard for entering Early Access is when Rend is in a state where even if we were to never update it again, it would be considered a complete game worthy of purchase by its players. We think Rend has reached this state. (Rest assured, we will be updating Rend with PvP and PvE content well beyond Early Access.)

What is Rend’s monetization plan?

It’s real simple: Rend will be a buy-to-play game for $29.99 USD on Steam.

Will my feedback really have an impact on the final game?

Yes! Team members will be actively engaging with the community on our official channels as well as external channels. The Rend forums feature a Game Feedback section which we will be taking insights from daily. Throughout Pre-Alpha and Alpha, strong yet constructive feedback has shaped the direction of the game: player insights changed the Divinity Stone from a binary win condition to its current "spirit bleed" mechanic. Even a well-structured suggestion from a PAX East attendee about allowing mid-cycle metaprogression led to team discussion and consideration.

As our own Jeremy Wood recently stated: “Our goal at the start of this project was to continuously grow and improve Rend by gathering direct feedback from our players every step of the way. As we lovingly craft this game with the help of our fans, this project remains just as much yours as it is ours and this public Alpha marks a significant milestone as we offer even more players around the world the opportunity to enter the world of Rend and join our community.”

How do I join Rend Alpha?

Sign up for Alpha on the Rend website. If you already signed up on the previous Rend website or at our booth during an event, you're all set! Please note, signing up multiple times does not expedite your invite. Everyone who signs up will be invited before the test concludes.

How long is the media embargo? I want to create content for Rend!

The media embargo on Alpha prohibiting the sharing of visual content (screenshots, streams, etc.) will last until shortly before the start of Early Access. We’ll announce when the embargo has been lifted. Until then, a watermark featuring the Rend Alpha logo and current character name will be visible in the game client.

What should I do while waiting for Rend Early Access?

Throughout Alpha (and beyond), our team will be active on the official Rend forums, Twitter, Facebook, and Steam, as well as fan-operated channels such as Reddit and Discord. We're eager to answer any questions you have about Rend, Frostkeep, or the survival genre!
